How to use AVG Antivirus Settings?

  • First, download the AVG Removal tool and run it.
  • Next, on the AVG Applying Security Settings welcome screen of the Removal tool, click the Install Anyway button.
  • On the AVG remover page, click the Continue button.
  • Now, it will prompt you to restart the computer.
  • The AVG removal tool is now installed.
  • Now, choose the AVG products that are displayed in the removal tool and then begin the removal process.
  • Once the removal tool process is done successfully, restart the computer.
  • After the computer has restarted, manually uninstall the AVG Removal folder in the C drive of My Computer.
  • Reinstall the AVG product.
AVG Security Settings

AVG Email Settings 

Email Protection is an extra layer of operative security in AVG antivirus. This also scans the incoming and outgoing messages in real-time for spiteful content such as viruses. This scanning can apply only to the messages that are sent/received through mail management software. When the web-based email account is opened through an internet browser, the computer is secured by the shields. The AVG Applying Security Settings is configured to give the best protection when turned on.

  • First, the Main settings screen enables you to set what type of messages are scanned by Email security. The Inbound AVG Security Settings option scans emails that you receive. The Outbound option scans the emails that are sent. The Newsgroup messages scan the communication that is from the news servers.
  • The Behavior screen enables you to allow or block AVG email signatures that give information regarding the recipients of clean or damaged emails. The Mark in the subject of mail containing virus option will tag the subject line VIRUS if the email contains malware.
  • The SSL scanning allows scanning the emails that are sent or received with the use of SSL/TLS encrypted connection.
  • The Action screen enables to configure the automatic reaction to any threats recognizes by email protection.
  • The Packers screen will enable you to specify the compressed file category that you want to email protect to unpack and check for malware. 
  • The Report file screen will enable you to indicate whether you want to Email Protection to make the reports of the scan results.   

AVG Proxy Settings   

The Proxy settings section is designed for users who connect the internet through a proxy server. This option enables you to modify the proxy settings to prevent problems with downloading virus definition and AVG Applying Security Settings. 

  • Check the box next to the Use specific proxy server option.
  • Now, type the proxy details in the text box applicable.
  • In the Type field, choose the HTTP or SOCKS4.
  • In the Address box, type the address of the proxy server.
  • In the Authentication type field, enter the type, username, and password.

AVG Advanced Settings   

To configure AVG advanced settings, follow these guidelines. 

  • Open the AVG application and click Options. Choose Advanced settings from the list.
  • The Appearance option has sub-options such as Language Selection, System Tray Notifications, Context menu, and Game Mode.
  • The Sounds option has the Sound Settings sub-options. You can temporarily disable AVG by opening the Temporarily Disable AVG Protection option.
  • The Computer Protection option has sub-options such asAntivirus, Anti-Rootkit, Cache Server, and Identity Protection.
  • In the Antivirus option, select all the options except the ‘Scan files on close.’
  • The Scans option lets you customize the Scan settings. You can choose which file extensions to exclude from the scan as well. Under Scans, go to the Removable Device Scan sub-option and make sure that ‘Enable removable device scan’ is ticked.
  • After making changes to the AVG antivirus’ advanced settings, click Apply and then click OK.

AVG Antivirus Firewall Settings    

Here are the guidelines to configure AVG Antivirus Firewall settings. These are the settings that protect your computer from unwanted intrusions, threats, and viruses. You can customize the firewall settings to set the level of safety that is required.

  • Select Private or Public as the firewall profile if you use a trusted or untrusted (cyber cafe, airport) network, respectively. Click OK to save these settings.
  • Go to the Specify Default Rules section and configure these settings.
  • The Auto-decide option lets AVG antivirus set the rules for each program automatically. 
  • The Allow option lets all the applications on your computer access the internet.
  • The Block option stops all AVG Applying Security Settings from accessing the internet.
  • If you select the Ask option, AVG antivirus firewall will ask you to choose whether you want to allow/block internet access every time an application attempts to connect to the internet.

Configure the AVG firewall policy preferences. 

  • There are options such as Show notifications about newly created allow rules, Show notifications about newly created block rules, Internet Connection Sharing mode, and Allow all connections with Friends when in Private mode.
  • The first option makes the firewall alert you whenever the firewall allows an application to access the internet. The second option makes AVG Security Settings firewall alert you whenever a Clean my PC application is blocked from accessing the internet.

Configure the AVG firewall policy preferences. 

  • The third option lets trusted users access the internet through your PC to troubleshoot issues by opening ports which are normally closed. You can deselect this option when the trusted user no longer needs access to your PC.
  • The fourth option allows the PC to connect to networks which have been set as ‘Friends.’(This applies when your PC is connected to a private mode network.)
  • You can configure packet rules after reading these guidelines. There are two types of rules you can customize, which include System rules and Packet rules. System rules are network traffic rules that are related to system capabilities, and Packet rules are ones which correspond to the information contained in network packets.
  • You can also configure the three tabs on the left, which include Network profiles, Friends, and Advanced.

AVG Ransomware Protection Settings   

Here are the guidelines to configure AVG ransomware protection settings.

  • This feature is automatically enabled.
  • If you want to disable it, go to General click the slider Yes. (Now, it is off.)
  • Read these AVG Applying Security Settings guidelines before configuring Ransomware Protection activity.

The Smart mode is enabled by default, and it is the option to enable a few commonly used and trusted applications to make changes to the protected folders. If any of the untrusted applications attempt to modify your files, AVG Antivirus firewall sends you a notification and requests access.

  • The Strict mode notifies you every time an application attempts to modify protected files. If you see a Ransomware Protection notification, click the Allow App button to allow the app to the list of trusted applications or Block app button to block the app from modifying files.
  • Set the protected folders by going to the Protected folders tab and clicking Add Folder. Choose the folder to be protected and then click OK.
  • Click 'Change protected file types' to choose what type of files are to be protected in the protected folders. By default, all the file types are selected. However, you can customize AVG Applying Security Settings option.
  • You can also configure the Blocked/Allowed apps tab. By default, whenever a new application attempts to make changes to the protected folders, you will be notified.
  • You can choose to add this app to the trusted app list or block it. You can also manually block/allow individual apps from the Blocked/Allowed apps tab. Click Allow an App or Block an App to add it to the trusted app list or block it, respectively.
  • Make sure that you use the latest AVG Security Settings firewall application to get protection from the latest viruses & threats. 

AVG Anti Spam Settings 

To enable the AVG anti-spam settings, first install this component on your system.

  • The AVG anti-spam settings are available as an additional component in the AVG Internet Security software.
  • Install the AVG anti-spam software during the custom installation process.
  • To install the components, go to the AVG antivirus software’s menu section and choose the Settings option.
  • Select Components Anti-Spam Install Component.
  • Once the component is installed successfully on your system, you can set the spam AVG Applying Security Settings as per your need.
  • Use the Sensitivity option to detect unwanted emails on your system. You can set the Sensitivity ratio to Medium or Higher based on your needs.
  • By default, the Sensitivity range is Medium. Make use of green bars beside the Sensitivity option to analyze its range.
  • The Mark in the subject of spam message & Mark in the subject of phishing messages options are enabled by default.
  • Enable the Retrieve new rules option to get instant updates about the Anti-spam settings new rule.

AVG Scan Settings 

To enable the AVG scan settings, read the guided instructions given below, and proceed with the same. 

  • Launch the AVG antivirus application on your computer.
  • Click Settings Scan Options Schedule Scan.
  • Now, enter the name & description for your scan in the Scan section.
  • After giving the name & description for scan, define it by selecting the data space you want.
  • Choose the scan data space from the Scan area drop-down menu.
  • In the drop-down menu, you can find four options. They are, Storage drives & removable media, Auto-start programs & modules loaded in memory, Interactive selection, and Toolkits.
  • The Storage drives & removable media option is related to the information stored on the physical devices.
  • The Auto-start programs & modules loaded in memory option apply on the AVG Applying Security Settings application and processes that run in the system’s background.
  • To specify the location of your system during the scan process, enable the Interactive selection option.
  • If you want to insert extra features, click the Add button.
  • Similarly, if you want to remove an area, click the Delete button.
