  • If the problem remains unresolved, restart your Mac. Keep holding the 'Command + R' keys during the restart until the Apple logo appears.
  • Sometimes, Mac will prompt you to choose a language. Select a language and click the arrow at the screen’s bottom.
  • Select the Disk Utility option from the utility window and click Continue.
  • If you have not mounted any startup disk, click Mount. Provide your administrator password (Mac login password) if prompted to unlock FileVault.
  • If you have a startup disk mounted, you will be prompted to unmount it. Now, exit the Disk Utility page and go to the Utilities window.
  • Select the Terminal option from the utility menu bar.
  • Follow the set of commands mentioned below to avoid the loss of data.
  • Type the 'LS/Volumes/' command and press Return/Enter.
  • Press the TAB key after entering the starting letter of the command to complete the following command automatically.
  • Type 'LS/Volumes/Macintosh\HD/Library/Extensions/' in the terminal window and press the Enter key.
  • Use the "rm -rf" command to remove the SelfProtect.kext extension.
  • Type the command 'rm -rf/Volumes/Macintosh\HD/Library/Extensions/SelfProtect.kext' and check if the file get deleted.
  • Enter the 'LS/Volumes/Macintosh\HD/Library/Extensions/' command and press Enter.
  • Type 'LS /Volumes/Macintosh\ HD/Library/rm –rf/Volumes/Macintosh\HD/Library/Bitdefender/LS/Volumes/Macintosh\ HD/Library/' and press the Enter key.
  • Now, check if the Bitdefender file has been removed.
  • Click on the Apple logo and select 'Restart' to startup Mac in normal mode.
