  • Launch the ESET Smart Security application on your computer.
  • Go to the ESET application's dashboard. Press the 'F5' key on your keyboard to open the Advanced setup screen.
  • Click the 'Network Protection' button and then select Firewall. Choose the Interactive mode from the 'Filtering mode' drop-down list. Click the OK button with the shield icon on it.
  • Try to perform a remote desktop operation. You should see an 'Outbound network traffic' notification from ESET Smart Security.

If the ESET Security Web Access Protection is non-functional, follow these guidelines to fix it.

  • Navigate to the Windows desktop and click the Windows icon-->Type 'cmd' in the text field and press Enter.
  • On newer versions of Windows, right-click the Windows icon and click Command Prompt. Make sure that you are logged into the computer as an administrator.
  • Once the command prompt window opens, type 'sc query epfw' without quotes and press Enter. Then, type 'sc query epfwwfp' without quotes and press Enter. Enter 'sc query epfwlwf' without quotes and press Enter. You will now know whether 'sESET's drivers are loaded.
  • If you find that the ESET drivers are not loaded, you can install them manually. Click 'Enter Advanced Setup.'
  • Alternatively, you can press F5 to go to the Advanced Eset Smart Security Blocking Remote Desktop Setup screen. 
  • Launch ESET Smart Security and click the Setup icon. Expand the Computer list by clicking the + button and then click HIPS. Go to the right side of the screen and deselect Enable Self defense. Click OK.
  • Now, go to the system drive on your computer. (Typically, the C drive.)
  • Open Program Files --> ESET --> ESET Smart Security --> Drivers --> epwlwf --> EpfwLwf.inf --> Click the Install button. This installs the ESET drivers on your computer.

Follow these guidelines to uninstall ESET Smart Security from your computer if the standard uninstallation procedure fails.

  • Go to the manufacturer's official site and download the ESET uninstaller.
  • Power off your computer and then power it on. While the computer boots, you should see a 'Press F* to enter BIOS.' Press that function key to enter BIOS.
  • Highlight 'Safe Mode' by using the arrow keys and press Enter to select it.
  • When the computer boots in safe mode, run the ESET uninstaller as an administrator. Type 'Y' and press Enter. Once ESET is uninstalled from your computer, press any key to exit the window. Restart the computer.

Eset Smart Security Update Error

Follow these guidelines if you face difficulties while installing ESET Smart Security updates.

The solution given below corresponds to the error code DB10161.

  • If you use ESET Remote Administrator, follow these steps.
  • Launch the ESET Remote Administrator Web Console on your web browser and key in your login credentials.
  • Click the Admin tab and then select Client Tasks. Choose Module Updates and then click Edit.
  • Click the + button beside Settings to expand the list and then click the 'Clear update cache' checkbox. Click Finish.
  • Return to the Modules Update screen, select the Module update option below and choose 'Rerun on failed' from the options displayed in the pop-up window.
  • Click the + button beside Target. View the listing of the client workstation, which encountered the task failure, and then click Finish at the bottom.
  • If you use ESET Endpoint Security, follow these steps.
  • After launching the ESET Endpoint Security application on your computer, press F5 to enter the Advanced Eset Smart Security Blocking Remote Desktop Setup screen. 
  • Click Update --> Go to the Clear update cache option and click the Clear button. Click OK.
  • If the update issue persists, you need to delete the update files. 
  • First, return to the Advanced Setup screen and click the + button beside Antivirus. Choose HIPS and toggle the 'Enable HIPS' and ''Enable 'Self-defense' options off. Click OK.
  • Restart the computer. Go to Start --> Control Panel-->Appearance and Personalizations-->Click Folder Options --> Show hidden files and folders --> Show hidden files, folders, and drives --> Apply.

  • Then, go to C --> Program FIles --> ESET --> ESET Security --> Modules --> delete all the 'em0xx' folders which can be deleted.
  • Restart the computer and relaunch ESET.
  • Go to the Advanced Setup screen by pressing F5. Enable HIPS and Self-Defense.
  • Return to the ESET dashboard and click Update --> Check for Updates. If the ESET update issue persists, uninstall ESET and reinstall it.

  • If you are unable to install ESET Smart Security, follow these guidelines to resolve the issue.
  • If the error code 1603 appears, you should perform a manual installation.
  • If you see the error code WIN1620, it means that the installation has been interrupted. Download the ESET offline installer from the manufacturer's site to resolve this issue.
  • To resolve the SC Error code 11, log in to the computer as an administrator.
  • If the error codes MSI.1406 and MSI.1303 appear, there is a system permission conflict. Follow these steps to install ESET.
  • Right-click the ESET installer and run it as an administrator. If the issue persists, follow these steps.
  • Go to the C drive on your computer and create three folders, namely, ESET Security, ESET Modules, and ESET Data.

  • If you use the ESET MSI, when the 'Enable Detection of PUAs' prompt appears, click Advanced Settings and then choose the installation path that you created.

  • Download the ESET Uninstaller from the manufacturer's site on your computer.
  • Check whether your computer is displaying the correct time and date. If not, set the time and date and then power off the computer.
  • Boot the computer. As the boot sequence begins, you should see a message stating that you need to press a certain function key to enter BIOS.
  • Press that function key when prompted. When the BIOS screen appears, highlight the Safe mode option and press Enter.
  • After the computer boots in safe mode and initializes, run the ESET Uninstaller as an administrator. Follow the ESET Uninstaller's on-screen prompts to uninstall ESET.
  • Restart the computer and restart ESET.
  • Right-click the Windows icon and choose Services from the list.
  • Right-click the services such as ESET Service, Security Center, Background Intelligent Transfer Service, and Windows Management Instrumentation Service one after the other and select 'Start' from the list.
