Finding out if the suspicious app is installed as a System app:

When a suspicious app has been installed as a System app, you cannot access or uninstall it. For instance, if an unwanted app has been installed by a seller or a person who is a previous device user, then you cannot uninstall that app. Even an Antivirus app such as AVG will not be able to remove such malicious software. In such a scenario, it is recommended that you first make an attempt to disable the suspicious app. Follow the instructions given here to do the same:

  • Reboot your Android device in Safe Mode.
  • First, go to your Android device Settings and then go to the Apps section.
  • If you could see the suspicious app, tap on it.
  • Finally, tap the Disable option to stop the suspicious app from running.

Finding out if the suspicious app has Device admin permission:

In case the suspicious app has received the Device admin permission while it was being installed, you have to remove the permission before you start uninstalling the app. Follow the steps given here to do the same:

  • On your Android device, navigate to Settings and choose the Device admin apps option.
  • From the list of Device admin apps, deactivate the Device admin permission for the suspicious app.
  • After you have successfully deactivated the Device admin permission, try uninstalling the unwanted app through Google Play Store. You can also uninstall it by navigating to the Apps section on your Android device Settings.
