Step 1: Add Your E-mail Domain To Sophos Central

  • Gather your e-mail account’s domain name, IP address or FQDN (Fully Qualified Domain Name), and port number.
  • Now, launch the Sophos Central application installed on your computer.
  • Go to the E-mail Gateway section.
  • Click on the Settings option followed by Domain Settings/Status. Select the Add Domain option.
  • Now, in the given fields, enter your e-mail account’s domain details.
  • Now, click on the Verify Domain Ownership button.
  • Verify your domain by following the on-screen instructions.
  • Once the domain verification has been completed, go to the next step of the configuration.

Step 2: Add Your Mailbox To Sophos Central Gateway

  • Select the E-mail Gateway option on the main screen of Sophos Central.
  • Click the Mailboxes option followed by Add.
  • Select Add Mailbox followed by User E-mail, Distribution List, or Public Folder.
  • Enter your mailbox details such as name and SMTP address in the given fields.
  • Finally, click the Save button.

Step 3: Importing Mailboxes In Bulk

  • You can import bulk mailboxes to Sophos Central. To do so, follow the below instructions.
  • Initially, make sure to create the import file with a .csv extension. 
  • Now, from the E-mail Gateway menu of Sophos Central, click on the Mailboxes option.
  • Select Add Mailbox > Import Mailboxes > Browse.
  • Choose the .csv file that you want to import and click Add.
  • Once the mailbox import is done, you can continue with the next step.

Step 4: Configure Bypass Exchange Online Protection

  • If you wish to block spam e-mails from entering into your Office 365 account, then you need to set up the Bypass Exchange Online protection for Office 365.
  • Initially, you have to sign in to your Office 365 portal.
  • Navigate to the Admin Centers section.
  • Select the Exchange option followed by Rules (from the Mailflow section).
  • Click Add > Bypass Spam Filtering.
  • Configure the spam filtering settings as per your desire and click on the Save button.

Step 5: Configuring Secure Connector

  • To protect your Office 365 account from e-mail threats, you have to configure the secure connector in between Office 365 and Sophos e-mail.
  • On your Office 365 admin portal screen, click on the Exchange option.
  • Select Mail flow > Connectors > Add > Partner Organization > Office 365.
  • Click Next.
  • Now, type the desired connector name in the given field.
  • Select or deselect the Turn it on option based on your desire.
  • Click Next.
  • Select the Use the sender’s domain option followed by +.
  • Choose the following options such as Reject e-mail messages if they aren’t sent from within this IP address range or Reject e-mail messages if they aren’t sent over TLS when prompted.
  • Now, click the + button and follow the on-screen instructions to finish the configuration.
  • Once the configuration is done, Office 365 will accept only the e-mails that come through Sophos Central IPs.
